5 Stars Must Have!
I haven’t had to use it yet, but I’m glad to know it’s there when I’ll surely need to use it one day.
4 Stars good product
The kit is good and did the trick. I would have liked more complete instructions on how to disassemble the lawnmower wheel in order to fasten the cranking tool.
3 Stars Annoying…
Honestly it was really annoying for me to sharpen the blades on my mower. I thought it’d be straight forward but apparently I’m pretty retarded when it comes to this mower and not making a mess. =P
5 Stars Awesome
This is a great product. The sharpening instructions where very easy to understand, and after I figured out that the hand crank could be replaced with a 1/2 inch chuck electric drill, I was able to sharpen my used, garage sale mower in about 5 minutes.
5 Stars reel lawnmower sharpening kit
This product is the standard kit for sharpening push reel lawnmowers manufactured by the American Lawn Mower company (a.k.a. Great States mowers). It does the job of sharpening the blades as expected. With this kit, I sharpen the five blades on the mower in about ten minutes.

1 Star Not a good product
They don’t stay on well and are a pain to walk around in. Threw em away and used golf shoes
5 Stars Bond 9215 Green Giant Spiked Aerator Shoes
The Bond 9215 Green Giant Spiked Aerator Shoes once I got them secure on my feet. I recommend that you wear them with work boots because tennis shoes don’t work well with the product. Great product and idea.
2 Stars I love the concept, but…
I thought this was a great idea, and it still could be. Two problems: The straps are too cheap. I’ve broken two of them by just tugging on them a little too hard while trying to make them tight enough. And the nails need to be tapered. As they are, they quickly fill up with debris as you walk around, making you have to stop and clean them. I think they would self-clean if the nail was a little wider at the top than at the point.
2 Stars poor construction
It seemed like a great product. An easy way to aerate while mowing the lawn. The first time I put the sandals on, before stepping off the deck onto the lawn, the buckles on the left sandal broke. Good idea, poor construction.
4 Stars Not what I expected
I purchased them for working in garden which gets slippery, to help slow down my packing the dirt. They are too big… wish there were three or four sizes to allow me to have something a little more ‘my foot size’ rather than size 17 mens or so. I wish in a picture they had shown them ON a shoe clad foot. The product itself is well made for the price but it’s not up to the reason I purchased them. And I have lost them in the patch. If you do not have any foot or ankle problems and a larger foot these would be great for the task, and, not trying to use them in a clayey soil. If you purchase be aware of the size of your new ‘footprint’ and that they can get stuck. I am not dissatisfied with the product itself, the money I paid was well worth it, the vendor was prompt about shipping, and I would deal with them again, but be warned that they may be awkward to use and hard to stay on, and if they ‘glue down’ you will have to leave them and get them up, off your feet. I have not tried them on lawn.

Black and Decker NST2018 18 Volt Cordless Electric 12 Inch Grass Hog String Trimmer

Able to transition from trimming to edging work with a touch of a button, this 12-inch electric two-in-one yard tool from Black & Decker trims areas after mowing on most 1/3 acre homesites, and edges along garden borders and sidewalks. Powered by two 18-volt NiCad battery packs for longlasting strength and quality performance, the NST2018 is both lightweight and efficient. An AFS system utilizes centrifugal force to instantly advance the line when needed, making this tool easy to operate. Additionally, it cuts more area per charge than any other cordless trimmer currently on the market. As comfortable as it is reliable, the NST2018’s head rotates 180 degrees, a secondary handle you can position for exceptional stability and comfort, and a lock-off switch protects against unintended start-ups. For added convenience, this handy tool comes with two 18-volt batteries and a compatible charger.

1 Star battery problem
Batteries last about 10 minutes, so if this is an issue stay away from this item.
1 Star More expensive than gas! Breaks easily.
I got one of these things about two years ago–wanted to do my part on cutting back gas emissions and all that sort of stuff we’ve been fed for years now. Well I like B&D products, but this thing is NOT what it’s cracked up to be–and that coming from someone who’s used one for about 2 years now. On the up side… it does a decent enough job of trimming and you get a nice fuzzy feeling knowing you’re not polluting the air. On the DOWN side. 1.) The batteries do NOT have the life they claim they do. Right out of the package and after all night charge… I ‘might’ have gotten a 15 minute run from the battery; but in all honesty, after a use or two, I KNEW I’d need two batteries (I have a 1/2 acre lot of land–but it’s urban and not really a LOT of trimming). Then I needed to get three, and then four… JUST to know I could get the job done in one day! 2.) The batteries ain’t [sic] cheap! I spent about another $100 or more on the batteries for this thing… and the twine which vanishes REALLY fast, isn’t very cheap–or efficient either. 3.) Its handle comes in two parts, and THIS is the clincher as to why I gave it ONE instead of maybe two-three stars (never more). These parts are attached by a plastic screw together piece. Now if you NEVER have to switch from trimmer to edger, you might be okay–I don’t know because that wasn’t my case. I had to switch it two or three times a job. Eventually that plastic farce in the middle simply broke apart–right at the end of my 2 year warranty! I was furious; but in a way, perhaps it all works out for the better. By the second year I was getting (and this is NO exaggeration) LESS than 3 to 5 minutes from each recharged battery before they’d begin to die out–hence the expense of another 3-5 batteries! NOT for me! I had tried glue, rope, and duct-tape to hold those two pieces together, but the angle I was operating at was ridiculous.
Bottom line: I would NEVER get another one of these things. Now the cordless blower worked fine, and I still will use it; but THIS monstrosity is headed for the garbage where it always belonged because it just doesn’t cut it–pun intended! Until they can make one that has a battery that doesn’t add some 5 lbs more to the weight, and that doesn’t run out after a few minutes use…and that is in one nice long piece that will NOT break apart in the center… I’ll be using a gas powered bump feed. I’m well rid of this horrible money pit!
1 Star Lame Plasticky Junk - Typical B&D
When looking for weed-whackers there’s not too many choices. B&D has prominence in most stores, despite the horrid dependability of their products in the last 2 decades. Alas, I bought this as a last-chance ~ hoping that this “New improved battery technology” wasn’t a total sham,.
It was. I even bought an extra battery - charging them both overnight.
This thing barely cuts 30 feet of edge before the motor power drops to about 1/3 of the initial ‘kick’. Completely underpowered, weeds wrap up in the head due to not enough power to lop them off… the “auto feeding line” does not feed~ you have to Stop, manually click a few inches out, then go back to work (this feature does not work in ANY brand which advertises it)only to realize the wimpy battery is almost dead.
Lame piece of junk!
4 Stars Better than the WORX GT
I bought the Worx GT at sears for $99 after seeing the infomercial and needing it now. It is light and very adjustable, but the thing got bound up on fairly light grass. I also couldnt get it to cut the grass around the swing set pole. I tried every angle. My old wired black and decker did it fine. Then the battery life was questionable. I have a tiny front yard and 1500Sq ft back yard and I was percieving the battery to have less power half way through edging my back yard. So I took the Worx GT back and bought the Black and Decker 12 inch cordless for the exact same price and it came with two batteries and has plenty of power just like it was wired.
The Black and Decker is not as adjustable but works perfect for most things as is. Otherwise I would have given it a 5.
5 Stars Weed Eater
Very quick in receiving product. Would buy again. very please with weed eater.

Easy Gardener 8021 Garden Defense Electronic Owl Sound And Motion Sensored

Our Garden Defense Electronic Owl is the ultimate in chemical-free pest control with both movement and sound. This realistic great-horned owl has sensors that detect when garden pests are near and will turn its head in that direction and hoot, scaring the critters away. Requires three AA batteries.
User Ratings and Reviews
4 Stars Excellent!
I just love my Hootie The Owl… this is a nice defense against the rabbits that feast at night.
4 Stars With a little adjustment
I purchased the owl to scare away birds inside our garage. We had to cover our vehicles because of the mess they made. The owl came in a timely manner and is very lifelike. We were very satisfied with the owl except for the fact that the batteries didn’t last. That was remedied with the purchase of an adapter which converted it to electric. It cost only $2 and now the owl hoots without interruption. The bird population is not enjoying the noise. We like this product and hope it continues to keep away the pests.
1 Star Don’t order online
Well, maybe this owl would have done the trick, but Amazon’s vendor threw it in a HUGE box with absolutely no packing materials. It banged and bounced its way here and arrived broken (big shocker). What a waste of my time and money. My advice is to buy this from a local store where you can test it out before buying. And whatever you do, don’t buy from the vendor ANTOnline.
4 Stars wow owl works
easy garden owl keeps birds away from my
shop, birds were tripping security alarm
and bird dropping both problem is solved
for now
1 Star Disappointed Consumer
The electronic owl that I purchased initially fulfilled the mission for which I purchased it–getting rid of the crows that frequented my yard. However, the owl lost its sound after one month’s time. The sound device stopped working completely, and it is not nearly as effective in scaring away predators as it was when the sound was available. Since the owl has a sixty-day warranty, I am hoping the company will replace it.

High Limb CS 48 Chain Saw For Professional Landscapers 48 Inch Chain
April 27, 2009 by Lawn Care · Leave a Comment
High Limb CS 48 Chain Saw For Professional Landscapers 48 Inch Chain

Each saw features a patented 48-inch high carbon steel Bimatic chain blade designed to wrap around tree limbs and cut them off as it is drawn back and forth. Attached to the ends of the blade are two 25-foot control ropes. Just toss the weighted end of the rope over the limb, pull the blade up into position, then pull back and forth on each control rope. The 48 inch blade is suited for big cutting jobs, limbs as large as 14 inches or greater in diameter. Directions as well as sturdy hand straps are included.
User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Good product
It really worked very well. The chain has a weight on the end so the chain will flip over such that the teeth are down. I cut an 8″ dia. limb reasonably quickly. It was a very worthwile purchase.
3 Stars OK…..
The saw worked ok. I got the limb down I wanted to. It is very flimsy at the connection point of the throwing bag. Had to replace ring with mechanic’s wire. The pull handles came apart on the first pull. Took several tries before the actuator worked.
4 Stars Paducah Ice Storm 2009
I bought this 48″ rope saw after Paducah, KY had a major ice storm Jan 2009. We used the rope saw on 3 branches so far. Each branch measured about 6″ diameter (oak). Our experience is that it takes about 15 minutes to put the saw into the correct position, then 2-3 minutes to saw through the branch. The chain has a weighted bar attached to one end that should position the cutting side of the chain towards the branch. It still takes some patience to get the cutting side correctly on the wood. We used the two-man method when cutting, trying to keep the ropes as horizontal as possible. This keeps the chain from pinching as the branch breaks away. It also keeps you from being under the limb. Also, as others have said, make two cuts. Make the first away from the trunk because the first cut will split the branch as the branch breaks away. Then the second cut can be closer to the trunk to neaten the cut. We just tied the rope to the handles and skipped the cheap clips.
5 Stars Does the Job
I bought so I could trim a large (10″ diam) dead branch about 35 feet up. It worked like a charm after getting used to it. The branch was very large (supplied firewood for 8 full days). I then used on small branches - works best on 4″-10″ - you can cut 2-3″ones but the small bend radius makes it harder - especially if using solo.
It took me about 10-12 throws to get the hang of throwing the bag, then a few trys to figure out how to get the chain to allign (tip: the weight only works if you fully slide the chain off the tree and only have rope contacting the limb, then slowly pull chain back onto limb and it is oriented correctly.)
I used it solo, and that is likely harder than using it with two people. There is still some risk using this tool, but far less than working up high on a limb (unless you are a pro and have the gear/skills/safety ropes.)
Like other reviews say, the bag clip is cheap & inadequate and should be replaced with a key ring or other stronger clip (producers of this product take note - it is simple to fix this little part!)
2 Stars Doesn’t quite cut it (so to speak)
Not a “pro” tool. For light-duty, occasional use only. You WILL need other tools as well.
I got in over my head (so to speak). Tried it on a locust tree’s dead branch (hard wood). As others have reported, the chain stuck on first try. Ended up also buying a Remington pole chainsaw pruner. The pole chainsaw has its own set of issues (cheaply made, chain falls off, etc) but it’s much faster and more effective than this item (when it works).
What DOESN’T work: everything is light duty. Pulling on the hand straps quickly ruined the “D”-shaped links. I switched these for some heavy links - then was worried that the attachment to the chain would break (it somehow held up). “Bean bag” weight is pitiful but it works (sort of). Quick-disconnect attachments are very light duty and quickly bend out of shape and are rendered useless.
Might be OK if you have a softwood branch or two. Don’t expect too much. Have a backup plan. Wife was willing to bring in a tree pro rather than listen to me whining. Again, might be OK for occasional use…good luck

Easy Gardener 6050 DeerBlock 7 Foot x 100 Foot Netting

Have you ever woken up to find that deer have beaten you to your upcoming harvest? Prevent this with DeerBlock, a reusable mesh fence that stops deer and other animals from eating your shrubs, berries and vegetables. DeerBlock comes in an easy-to-use roll and can be set up as a fence, plant cover or border.
User Ratings and Reviews
3 Stars a little on the flimsy side
I bought this because I was being “frugal”–I didn’t want to pay the $56 plus shipping for the heavier weight material option–and now I’m sorry.
Although this might do the trick, while I was putting it up it was tearing, just by my pulling on it a little bit. As my confidence in this product is slim I’m probably going to cost myself more in the end by now buying the more expensive option anyway. Bottom line, I don’t want the anguish of putting in a garden, letting it mature and ripen beautifully, only to find that deer have gotten in and eaten everything in one dawn escapade. It’s worth the extra bucks (pardon the pun) up front.
5 Stars Safe Gardens
Deer are not my problem - squirrels and my beloved cats are. I have laid this netting over my garden beds and have not lost one plant to diggers or had my garden beds disturbed.
I am very pleased with this product.
5 Stars i should have bought this a long time ago
This netting was easy to install. After only 3 days of installation I have seen a difference in my garden. The deer are no longer eating the tops of my tomato plants as well as all the flowers of my zucchinis. The bunnies haven’t figured out how to get in, so this product has saved my vegetable garden.
3 Stars Thin, but nice price.
I needed something to enclose my 30′X60′ garden since the deer were eating on our plants the same night we planted them. I put this up around the perimeter of my garden using 2X2X8’s as stakes. It has successfully kept the deer out of the garden this far. However…we live in an area with a lot of wind and severe storms from time to time and the netting is so thin that any time the wind gets hard, it breaks away from the staples that we used to connect it to the 2X2’s. Almost every morning I have to go out and restaple up another section that has come loose. It has been up for over a month now and a few places have pulled loose so many times and torn the mesh that I’m having a hard time stapling it back up. I don’t know if there is a better way to put this up to keep it from tearing so bad, but for the way we did it, I give it only three stars. It is still way cheaper than the heavy duty stuff (we couldn’t afford $150 for three rolls of the expensive stuff, when this cost around $50 for three rolls). Also, it has not kept out raccoons…they have figured out how to get under it, even though we let a foot or so stapled into the ground.
4 Stars Deer block saved my garden
I really like this product. We had a problem with the deer eating the tomato plants in our vegie garden. We got the deer block last year and it did the trick! We enlarged the garden this year and set in posts for the deer block, we put in a gate and it has worked great, no bunnies eating the lettuce either!! You can hardly see it and in the last two years nothing, such as birds or butterflies have gotten caught in it. So far it has done the job!Deer Block
American Lawn Mower Company 1815 18 18 Inch Reel Mower
April 27, 2009 by Lawn Care · Leave a Comment
American Lawn Mower Company 1815 18 18 Inch Reel Mower

The business end of this hand pushed reel mower is solid, sharp, and easy to use, with five heat-treated, knife-sharp tempered alloy steel blades that can be adjusted for varying grass heights from 1/2 to 2-1/4 inches. With its 10-inch wheels, radial tires, 18-inch cutting width, and 2-inch welded shrub bar, this mower should enable you to cross whatever terrain and reach whatever hard-to-access rogue patches of grass you desire. Plus, the soft foam cushion on the handlebar is a nice — and much appreciated — touch. However, assembly can be a headache, even though the only tool you need is a wrench. The instructions could be clearer, and the handle parts could fit together better. This product is backed by a limited 2-year warranty.
User Ratings and Reviews
4 Stars Good lawn mower if you like to spend time outside
The reel mower is easy to use, quite simple actually. Setup was easy, it took me about 10 minutes to assemble it from the box. My first mowing with it was the day that my lawn turned 95% green from the winter. (Likely too soon to really cut, but I was excited.) The mower was easy to push, of course in most places I was taking off about a quarter of an inch. A week later I took the mower out again to cut off about 1/2 an inch. It was slightly harder to push than the first cutting, but not a considerable challenge. The only major difficulty is that I have bark wood chips in some of my landscaping which the squirrels and birds love to kick around onto the lawn. Plan on picking these pieces up prior to mowing, or you will be stopping, pushing the reel back and picking up the pieces as you mow.
Pros: Easy to use, no dealing with an engine, cuts an 18″ swath, easy assembly, extremely quiet operation.
Cons: Handle requires re-tightening the first few times of usage. There is about at 3″ gap between the wheels and the cutting area (be prepared to do some work along fence lines with some other form of cutter). Does not work well with sticks or bark bedding.
General comments:
My lawn is fairly flat, with a small slope in one area. With taller grass, it is difficult to start going up-hill, but sideways or down is still fairly easy. Lot size is about a quarter acre.
My first impression of the product is that I’m glad that I purchased it. I would walk over the same area with a rotary mower, making the same number of passes, and this way I’m getting to enjoy the job without extra noise, and the smell of gas burning. If you have a relatively flat yard, don’t worry, the reel mower isn’t too difficult to push, as long as you cut regularly and often.
4 Stars Great lawn mower being totally human powered
I like my push powered lawn mower for 3 reasons:
1. I get to walk around and can hear the birds, wind, etc…, while giving it a good trim, and leaving nonclumpy clippings.
2. No gasoline smell, nor gasoline consumption for cutting lawn
(I really want to use my money for something other than cutting giant pieces of land only for looks and community regulations.)
3. I understand pretty much everything on the machine, as it is really simple and durable. Quality joints and parts- US made.
Two Dislikes:
1. Any hard object about the size of a finger can stop man and machine immediately.
2. I’m not in good enough shape to cover my entire backyard, as my mower takes more effort on my part. I usually pass by a patch of lawn twice to make sure I get the lengths even.
3 Stars better than most that are on the market
I bought this thinking it would cut the areas that my riding mower cannot get. Assembly is simple. Blade adjustment you will have to play with to get it right. It does not have the feature that lets you pull it back when mowing. THAT IS AN IMPORTANT FEATURE that is lacking. If you have flat areas to cut, it works well. I ended up buying a power lawn mower as this just wore me right out. I don’t need a heart attack. It will be sold at the next yard sale.
5 Stars AWESOME Reel Mower
We have Empire Zoysia and we installed 29 pallets around a year ago (11,600sq). We have been treating the grass correctly, but we have been mowing the grass with a self-propelled rotary mower. It looks good when its cut, but it does make the lawn look like yellowish color for a couple of days, because it breaks/rips the leaf, leaving it vulnerable for diseases.
We heard from other people to use a reel mower that its very good for zoysia. We purchased the American Lawn Mower about 1 month ago, and let me tell you, we LOVE IT. We have used the reel mower 2x already, but its winter time and the grass won’t grow much, but we would it have loved it was summer to cut it weekly. Not only leaves the grass with a beautiful green color, it is an awesome way to workout, and you can use it at ANY TIME without waking up your neighbors =).
The way the reel mower works, it cuts the leaf uniform, not leaving the leaf vulnerable to diseases. Its like when a person needs a haircut, you go to a barber to get it done.
The American Lawn Mower its a good product, VERY EASY to assemble, and we recommend it for the people that have zoysia. We give 10 out 10.
We received the product like 4 days after we placed the order. Thanks to all those involved =).
4 Stars Not great, but useable
Handle bolts together, so it flexes more than it should. Presumably the handle is manufactured of multiple pieces so it can be shipped from China in a small box.
It cuts well (short grass only). For long grass and/or weeds I gas-up my power mowers.
Fiskars 30 Gallon Hard Shell Base Kangaroo Gardening Container 9413

Holes positioned in the HardShell bottom allow for ventilation and water drainage. It has a unique coiled internal skeleton that creates a sturdy container. The Kangaroo’s durable polyvinyl and polyester construction makes it tear-, UV-, and mildew-resistant. The container also has cushioned handles to make carrying a load more comfortable, and can be used with or without a standard trash bag. The HardShell Kangaroo Container features a unique toggle-and-loop closure system that’s easy to use. This bag features a convenient dump handle allowing for easy disposal of its contents. When expanded, the container measures 28 inches high with a 22-inch diameter and weighs 4-1/2 pounds. It is covered by a 2-year warranty.
User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Best Kangaroo Bin
This is the best kangaroo bin that exists. I’ve used all the others (professionally) and either the handles or toggles pull off, or the bottom tears. I’ve used 2 of these to date, and had no probelsms (beyond crew leaving them behind!). Definately worth the extra money.
5 Stars Portable Trash Container
We purchased the Fiskars 30-gallon container, #9413, for use at camp sites and multi-day dog trials so that we and others near us would have a large trash receptacle. The Fiskars unit works perfectly for this. It is sturdy, erects positively, and stays put even in a moderate breeze. However, it needs bags larger than 30-gallons to work correctly. I would suggest using 36 or even 39 gallon bags, as the Fiskars container is really bigger than the 30-gallon designation would imply. Collapses to about 3 or 4 inchs in height, and will store easily in any space that will take the footprint of the container. The hard bottom helps keep the container both upright and stable, and in place in a breeze.
5 Stars Durable, handy, and well made
I love this container. It folds down for storage, holds quite a bit, and has a hard nylon bottom for durability. The last fold-down container I had wore out on the edges of the bottom from being dragged aroudn with heavy material in it. THis hard bottom takes care of that.
5 Stars Clean Up Made Easy
This is a wonderful product! My husband is a landscaper and uses this to haul debris. He finds it much easier to use than a tarp. The side handles make dumping the container so easy and the hard shell exterior allows you to use it without having to have someone else hold it open for you.
5 Stars Trash day just got a lot less painful
The size and weight of this bucket make it perfect for emptying all my wastebaskets. A 33-gallon trash bag fits inside it perfectly, stretching tightly around the top so it doesn’t fall inside when a can full of stuff is dumped into it. I’ve searched unsuccessfully for ages for some type of cart to meet this need but find this bucket is ideal. It weighs practically nothing and collapses easily after use to store in a closet.
I’ve always hated emptying the household trash into the black plastic bags with stuff spilling everywhere. I don’t pre-line every can in the house, nor do I have enough trash to warrant emptying daily, so my weekly trek is often very annoying as I go from room to room with an uncooperative floppy black bag in tow. This spring bucket has just made my life much more pleasant. I purchased a larger version as a Christmas present and was so taken with its ability to collapse and store when not in use, I ordered this one for myself hoping it would meet my inside need. It does indeed, with 5 stars.
It springs up fully and has a sturdy slick material on the sides, which gives it good stability and a smooth interior so the filled trash bag is easy to pull out without getting caught on the spring bands. The hard shell bottom allows it to slide easily over floor or carpet so pulling it from room to room is easy.
I know it has lots of other uses both inside and out, but for me this one job makes it well worth the price and makes trash day relatively painless–finally.
